After a hearty Christmas supper, we went for a short hike just 10 minutes away from our house. The trail is only about 5km long and travels up the Duiwerivier, diverging away from it along a stream with a waterfall at the end.

About halfway in the trail, one can walk up to a lookout point from where one can see the river below as well as a few of the houses on Hoekwil’s outskirts. Soon we reached the waterfall – it is much smaller than the one in the Touwsrivier, yet this trail receives less traffic, making it more enjoyable in the holiday season.
